Robinsons Supermarket partners with BSP for national coin recirculation program
Robinsons Supermarket is proud to partner with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in its efforts to bolster the national coin recirculation program through the Coin Deposit Machine (CoDM) project.
Last June 20, 2023, one CoDM was unveiled at Robinsons Supermarket in Robinsons Manila, enabling customers to deposit coins and directly credit the equivalent amount to an electronic wallet. Three other CODMs were also launched at other sites in Metro Manila on the same day, and more slated for launch across the country soon.
Noting the importance of coins in doing business and its impact to retailers, Robinsons Retail President and CEO Robina Gokongwei-Pe said, “Coins are an essential part of our monetary system, alongside other types like paper and digital currencies. They support economic activity, making it possible for individuals like our customers to buy goods and avail of services smoothly. When coins are hoarded or forgotten, the balance of our monetary system is disrupted and we face challenges like artificial shortages.”
Present at the event were then BSP Governor Felipe Medalla, Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, other BSP officials, and officials of Robinsons Retail.
