Southstar Drug turns over donation to UP Track and Field team
In support of athletic excellence, Southstar Drug turned over a donation of Php 1 million to the University of the Philippines (UP) Track and Field Team last December 29, 2023.
The donation was a pledge made during the Metro Manila leg of the 12th annual Run for Wellness in UP Diliman last August, which will go towards helping improve the team’s athletic training capabilities. UP Diliman’s University Health Services was also a beneficiary of the most recent run.
"Our annual Run for Wellness provides us with a platform to not only advocate for a healthy lifestyle but to also take immediate, tangible action in support of the local community. We hope this donation enables aspiring athletes to excel and be one step closer to reaching their full potential," said Southstar Drug General Manager Mariel Crisostomo. “We would also like to thank Philippine Secretary of Health Dr. Ted Herbosa, himself a former member of the UP Track and Field Team, for gracing the event and being an example of excellence,” she added.
Facilitating the turnover were President and CEO Robina Gokongwei-Pe, Mariel Crisostomo, and General Counsel Gilbert Millado. Receiving the donation were UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol, College of Human Kinetics Dean Francis Carlos Diaz and Assistant Professor Marvin Sabado, and current UP Track and Field Team members with Coaches Rio de la Cruz and Karl Francisco.
